Good to know
Questions
- Where exactly is the Pod?
On a secluded rural site surrounded by native bush on the Kāpiti Coast, about ten minutes from the Waikanae town centre. We send the exact address once your stay is confirmed.
- How many people can stay?
The Pod has been designed intentionally for solitude, and everything about it — from the space to the way meals are portioned — is built around a single person staying. For this reason we only take bookings for one guest.
- Is it really dark?
Yes. Blackout blinds make the Pod genuinely dark at any hour, which is the point — deep, undisturbed sleep is the fastest route to recovery. If you're looking for the full "darkness retreat" experience there are additional drapes that can be easily added to be sure it is 100% dark.
- What is the sound I can hear?
A stream runs close by, so flowing water is a constant background through the day and night, along with the native bird life in the bush around you. Click on the STREAM SOUND tab above for a preview.
- What bathroom facilities are there at the Pod?
There is an indoor/outdoor styled bathroom on the deck attached to the Pod, that includes a bath with a rain head shower above. There is a simple stone hand basin for hand washing and toothbrushing. The deck is fully covered, and is lockable giving you complete privacy for your stay.
The composting toilet is in a separate building a few short steps from the Pod. Please note: this is a shared facility which may be used on occasion by those that have booked stand alone sound therapy sessions on Fridays.
- What food is provided?
The intention of the Pod is for a full relaxation experience. This is why we do all the cooking and provide nourishing meals for your stay. For one night stays, dinner and a continental style breakfast are provided. For longer stays, lunch is included too. If you've booked the day package, a light lunch is provided. You are welcome to bring snacks to accommodate in between meal times.
The Recalibrate Retreat package is a fast, meaning no meals are provided for the first four days — only water. Your fast will be broken on the fifth day with a wholesome soup, and then followed with gentle meals for your final day/night in the Pod.
All meals provided are subject to seasonal change. Once your booking has been confirmed, we will send you our menu options, allowing you to choose the meals you would like to have during your stay with us.
We will ask you if there are other dietary requirements that we need to accommodate, including allergies.
- If there is no onsite kitchen, how do mealtimes work?
Your meals are freshly made and prepared, and delivered to you at the Pod via the “drop box” on mealtimes - 12pm for lunch and 6pm for dinner. This means you won’t be disturbed during your stay. Your meals are delivered in insulated stainless steel food bowls so you can eat them when you choose to.
You do not need to do the dishes while you stay. This is something we also take care of. Once mealtime is over, simply pop them into the dishes tub provided and place them back in the drop box for collection.
- Can I bring my own food?
You are welcomed and encouraged to bring your own snacks outside of scheduled meal drops, but please be aware that there are no cooking facilities onsite. You can, however, refrigerate any items that you bring along with you.
- What is there to do at the Pod?
Nothing — and that is exactly the point. The Pod is designed for rest, stillness, and going inward. There is no Wi-Fi, no television, no schedule to keep, which makes a stay a simple digital detox. You can sleep, soak in the bath, listen to the stream and the birds, read, write, or simply be. The greatest gift the Pod offers is permission to do absolutely nothing.
- What should I bring?
Warm layers, toiletries, and as little else as possible. Leaving the phone in the car is encouraged.
- How do I book?
Choose a package and a date on the booking page and send us a request. We confirm by email, usually within 24 hours, with payment details and directions.
- Can I book an extended stay?
Unfortunately, we do not offer extended stays. The Pod is intended as an intentional retreat and not to serve as general accommodation. Due to catering requirements and being a small family run business, we only offer the days available on the calendar.
- Is the Pod heated?
Yes the Pod is well heated and you can expect to be comfortable all year round.
